Maverick Contest Deadline Extended!
By Jeff | 29 August 2010 - 05:40 PM
Good news for you procrastinators...the original deadline of September 1st will be extended to September 17th.
I've gotten about 20 entries so far, but we need more than that! For everyone who thinks they wouldn't do good, don't forget that you can do a joint entry with another user. Each user can submit up to three entries.
Don't leave that $100 prize hanging, submit your entry today! You can email all entries to me. You can see my email on the About page.

Rockman Online Trailer Released!
By Mac | 26 August 2010 - 09:34 PM
Straight from Pmang/Neowiz and Capcom comes the first official Rockman Online Trailer! This beautifully animated video shows the world in peril in which robots riot and buildings crumble. The classic cast, along with glimpses of X characters appear on the scene. Among all the familiar faces there even comes a new, enigmatic character.
While it is unknown exactly how these two series mesh together, it is said this is supposed to be "the bridge" that crosses the series over. I personally see it as a bridge to nowhere due to some possible inconsistencies but then again, we will have to see just how this chaotic saga plays out. Disappointing still is the lack of any screenshots or gameplay footage. What does it all mean? Only time will tell!

Update on Maverick Contest Entry Rules
By Jeff | 25 August 2010 - 04:00 AM

Just a quick update on the 2010 Maverick Contest's entry rules...
A person can submit up to three entries.
Joint entries (two people working on one piece) are allowed, but only one per those two people. As an example, if Mac and Talon submitted a joint entry, they can't submit another joint entry together, but they could each work on another one with another person, such as Mac and Zechs. As for the prize, the actual artist of the entry and the person with the idea would go 70/30, to be fair to the artist who assists them and actually does most of the work.
I feel like joint entries are a nice way to assist the people who have great ideas, but just can't translate them to paper. This way, everyone has a fair chance!
Of course, as said before, this is an Animaloid Maverick contest. I know most Mavericks are bipeds and appear as humans, but as long as it's based off an animal and people can tell that, you're fine.
The contest submission deadline is currently set to September 1st, but with the fairly small amount of entries I've gotten so far, I could extend it a bit. There's a $100 prize, don't forget! XD Questions? Comment.

MMX Engine/Level Editor Partnership
By Jeff | 22 August 2010 - 06:08 PM
On top of the 2010 Maverick contest, here's another thing we're running.
Some of you may have heard of the Super Mario World Level Editor called Lunar Magic. After seeing that a year or so back, my imagination ran wild with what I could make if there was an editor like that for X1-X3 (I would imagine X4-X6 is too advanced for now and would be pushing it).
You've probably seen X game creation topics in the forum, but I'll link you to a few just in case you haven't...
Mega Man X: Corrupted by JKB Games
justin3009's Fully Playable Zero X3 patch
GameDragon's Mega Man X Engine
kirbyhi5's Mega Man X Rise
I want to do my part and help push this a bit, so the whole MM community can start making their own games with ease. This way, if X9 just so happens to be the last X game, the series will never die with side stories being told in fan games, etc.
If you visited the SMW Lunar Magic link I provided above, you can see how easily accessible and user friendly it is. You can drag and drop objects, set backgrounds, pretty much anything within reason. Anyone can make their own game easily, and you can even save an edited ROM file to play your own game in an emulator!
That being said, if anyone can come up with a similar style program, I am offering $1,000+ for the release of the program. If it comes out with amazing quality, I may even up that amount.
So go on and tell every programmer you know! Post this wherever you think people may be interested. I'm doing this for everyone's enjoyment, and if a program is released because of this, the only thing I want in return is some quality games. ;P

Rockman X6 Prototype Released
By Mac | 22 August 2010 - 04:58 AM
Joy! My first post following the new layout. What better way to start with the some interesting information?
It's not X9, it's not new, heck it's not even a complete game! Though who said that was a bad thing? A fan, Techokami informed the community via Protodude that Skaarg, a member of the Sonic Retro Forums, has dumped and released a very early prototype of Rockman X6 for all to enjoy! I must say, it is a very interesting experience. Since it's a prototype, many elements of the game are either in early stages of development, different from the final build, or completely absent. To list a number of the things for example:
• The Nightmare System, the randomization of stage layouts and obstacles, is entirely absent.
• No armor capsules or heart tanks.
• You can save Reploids, but they won't show up as the rescued in the rescue results screen (above, left image).
• Controller options, save menu and loading screens are graphically broken.
• As seen in pre-release screenshots, minor bosses have a skull emblem under their lifebars.
• The boss approaching "WARNING" is vocalized.
• There are no sound effects during cutscenes (such as hums of machines or howling winds), only voices.
• Falcon Armor's Giga Attack lacks sound effects.
• Opening stage theme loops, not continuous.
• Stage background graphics are incomplete in some areas.
• High Max's battle sprite is a brighter hue.
• Nightmare Viruses in Commander Yammark's stage does not infect rescuable Reploids.
• When fighting Nightmare Zero, his armor is traditional red whereas in the final, it's purple/pink.
• Rainy Turtloid's stage music is slightly different, lacking certain instruments.
It's almost like walking through time and through the minds of the development team. Below is the download link of the build. Enjoy this rare oddity!

Rockman Online...This Year?
By Jeff | 19 August 2010 - 03:10 AM
There hasn't been much news on the Korean Mega Man MMO lately, mainly because there hasn't been much information. No screenshots, only a few (yet awesome) pieces of artwork and worst of all... no western or European release date!
According to Hankyung, the game is set for a release in Korea and other Asian areas later this year. No exact release date was mentioned but at least this gives us some insight. A couple other titles are said to be released too, though I'm sure they cannot compare. ;P
Details were also mentioned, but it's nothing that hasn't been revealed before. For now, Capcom's suggestion box is still open... and there's always the option to struggle with distant Asian servers. =P
Thanks Protodude!

Forum Skin Updated!
By Jeff | 16 August 2010 - 01:56 AM
At last, the forum upgrade is complete.
Since updating to 3.1.2 from 3.0.5, the forum skin sort of broke (as most IPB skins did with the update), and I've implemented the fixed, upgraded version of the one we previously had. The new skin feels shinier, sleeker, and just overall better. There are also many new features with the new skin, such as a centralized account area up top, very smooth transitions, social networking icons at the bottom of each topic, and even an option to close the side menu and make the forum categories larger (see the arrow right under X's buster to the right). Currently I'm keeping the icons that came with the skin because they match very well. I might consider adding the X, Zero, Sigma, etc. icons later on, but I just felt that while browsing the forum all the different icons were very confusing.
For those who had the Banner skin before, you can change it down at the bottom-left of the forum like you did previously. I darkened the banners slightly to fit better with the new skin, and there's even an option to "Hide Banner" or "Show Banner" in case you want to at any time.
As for the picky people that somehow like the old style better (honestly can't see how you could like it better), I kept the old styles in the drop down to choose from too. If I get a lot of good feedback, and no one uses the old skin, I'll just delete them to save some room and make thing less confusing, especially for new users. On top of all that, the forum has an updated mobile skin, which looks especially great on an Android/iPhone based phone.
As always... if you encounter any problems, shoot me an email. Oh... and please leave me some feedback!

Forum Status
By Jeff | 09 August 2010 - 10:12 AM
I just want to give everyone a status update on the forum upgrade.
This was originally scheduled for yesterday by an Invision Power Board (maker of forum) tech, but he never got back to me. However, about four hours ago (I was asleep), he went through with the upgrade to the latest version. I originally thought this would completely break the skin we have (and possibly the chat) due to other discussions I saw online, but it seems that isn't the case (yay!).
Two problems I noticed so far are the quote boxes are white instead of dark, and the "View last post" info now says something like...

In: Beta For Rockman Online Soon?
By: Mac
...with numbers instead of a title with actual words. If you come across any other errors please let me know via PM or email. One thing I've noticed is that there is a social media icon bar at the bottom of each topic where you can share a topic through miscellaneous networks, which is pretty cool.
I will eventually download and implement (very soon) the latest version of the skin we currently use (Underground), and that should fix all of our issues. The only problem with that is the maker of the skin changed the banner size to be slightly larger, so we would lose the random banner rotation of all banners we have on the forum right now. In that case I will probably make just one banner for the forum, and make more here and there instead of delaying the skin upgrade, which looks very nice.
Anyway...I just wanted to update everyone on this! Don't forget to PM or email me with any problems you encounter. Thanks!

Beta For Rockman Online Soon?
By Jeff | 09 August 2010 - 02:08 AM
It seems NeoWiz Games and Capcom's Rockman Online will soon be entering the closed beta phase. Here's the awesome new image from advertisements for the beta...

Some believe that Rockman Online could be released this year, with the beta starting soon and all. We'll keep our eyes open for any screens/videos/artwork!
Special thanks to Korean-based fan RockMaster for this news tip!

Maverick Contest 2010 Now Open!
By Jeff | 07 August 2010 - 05:19 AM
In honor of the first revamp of the site, the next contest will focus on what the first main feature was on the site when it began...the Maverick Contest.
The rules are simple, just draw/sprite/animate an original Maverick created by you, and send it in. A person can submit up to three entries.
Joint entries (two people working on one piece) are also allowed, but only one per those two people as a group.
Once you have completed your entry, submit it to me at Jeff@MegaManX9.com by September 17th, and I'll save it for when the voting starts. Keep in mind that anyone submitting stolen artwork will instantly be disqualified.
The winner will receive $100 through PayPal, or $100 worth of items of their choice (a game or two?). Be sure to tell everyone you know! DeviantArt, SheezyArt, wherever you go...because I've seen tons of artists with some amazing pieces that I'm sure they would love to submit! Maybe we should do this annually. XD
