Since yesterday, I start to wonder about Zero's true mission. I asked one of user in Private Message before post new topic. I get some information but seem not enough yet.

What was cause Zero to forget his true mission?

Also does Sigma knew about Zero's true mission after Zero give Sigma some Maverick Virus, or he start learn about it in X5?

In X5, once Zero become Maverick, does he know who is unknown (Wily) character?

He knew about it before X5. Remember as Sigma is being defeated at the end of X2, he says to X, "I don't understand.....why did Zero.....he is the last of the doctor's creations." By saying that shows that he knows something about Zero.

Nope. He didn't figure out who Wily is until he had backflashes in the end of X5. He sees the figure of Wily and then sees himself being built. Right then, he says that he understands everything.

This I do not know. It might be a fault in programming Zero, but I'm not sure.

In the Japanese X2 script, Sigma even almost gets across in that same spot in the dialogue, that Zero is a Wily Number.

"However, Zero.. why... he was.. the last of... Wi.. num.. bers...."

Zero forgot his true mission because... Well, I dunno. Im going to go out on a limb here and say he never really knew it. Remember, Wily locked him away when he was found out to be violent and disobedient. It's possible to assume plot hole and that Zero never was actually given the mission but merely let to fulfil it anyway,

Or-

Zero DID have his mission programmed into his memories, but the flaw that made him violent and disobedient prohibited him from ever being able to carry it out in any logical or calculated manner other than by brute force frontal attack, that is, if he would even decide to follow the mission, considering he was disobedient.

Zero likely lost the mission the same time he was infected by the Virus and had his personality changed. The mission was pushed far away from his conscious mind, deep into his subconscious memories. Along with the fragments of memory he retained from his creation, and the memories of Wily.


As for Zero knowing Wily once he Awakens in X5, Im going to assume he does. if Wily is able to communicate to him and ask him wether he has forgotten his mission, and Zero then complies with the mission, and remembers it, it is very likely he would know who his creator is by that point. or doesnt, and doesnt care, being driven SOLELY by the mission, and nothing more.

Another possible reason of how Zero escaped from his true mission is perhaps Dr. Cain. After Sigma and Zero fought, Sigma said to his troops to call him and study him. Perhaps Dr. Cain healed him (not completely). Even if no one understands him other than Wily, we can say that there are some pieces of his data that can be understood (like rebooting his memory). Lets say that Zero didn't remember (much) because his memory has been attempted to be erased for the safety of the injured reploids that were attacked. The only problem with that attempt is that he is Wily's MASTERPIECE. And so, Zero will recollect his thoughts. If you think about it, it makes sense. Dr. Cain disappears after X3 not having too much background.

But Cain never touched a Hair on Zero's systems. He never added or modified anything. (maaaybe repaired battle damage, thats about it) When Zero awoke in Cain's lab, he was inexplicably cured of his violent Maverick behavior.

I agree with Zan. I always felt that the climactic impact of Sigma's strike knocked Zero into a coma-like state in which he loses fragments of his memory. In which case, he awakens as a "good guy". Over the course of the story, those fragments return in a hazy sense until major events like in X5.

Why would he wake up as a good guy? Well, one could assume that the "W" that appeared on that crystal was an indicator of the "virus" that Wily implemented to subdue his violent behavior. Along with his capsule, it continues to course throughout his systems internally. Now when it was shattered, that sudden shock and halt might have froze Zero's conscious into that non-violent state, without all the pain, and with the berserk behavior and "true mission" being pushed away into the depths of his mind.

I dunno, RMZC's timeline says that Zero was infected DRING the fight, from an armor breach, and that it is that infection which changed his personality. of course, it doesnt explain how or why, so the idea of Sigma's strong punch to the head- after all, reploid or not, that IS where his electronic brain is- and a strong shock to the systems in there while it was being infected could most definitely cause some kind of coincidental "perfect storm" which caused him to become good.

Isn't it possible that the glitch could have been interfering with Zero's memory of his Mission? Which could have been yet another purpose for the Virus?

I don't see why not. Since Wily couldn't control him in any case, it seems only natural that in a feral-like state, any direct order, programming or in this case, a mission/prime objective, would be thrown out the window.

So, if Wily created this virus to "infect" Zero in which to actually calm him down and obey orders, and with it within him and his stasis pod for all those many years, you'd think that by then, the viral program would have since successfully subdued Zero. Now just recently we learn that due to damage when Zero is out of the stasis pod, at that time the virus actually takes hold and starts doing its thing. Probably why Zero's forehead crystal reacted the way it did. In which case I'm pretty sure a perfect storm did occur.

I bet that strike canceled the virus' effects similar to how games prompt you "not to remove the memory card while saving!" or some computer programs while installing. Doing so causes things to mess up and cause unintended results. In this scenario, it caused Zero to enter a normal, though rather amnesia stricken state. Later on, Sigma "completes the installation" if you will with the events of X5. When that happens, the original intention of the virus, to calm him down and obey orders as it were, is now complete. All that's on Zero's mind at that point is his order, his true mission.

Which I suppose answers the question on if he remembered it, but I'm not so sure his prime program calls for any remembering, as it's probably hard coded into him somehow, so to speak. After all, it's pretty much his purpose for being constructed.

Knowing Wily, Zero's mission was to ""CONQUER THE WORLD! AHAHAHA!!!" When Sigma punched Zero, maybe that fixed him in some way (you know, like when you hit an old tv and it starts working) other than just removing the virus. Maybe Zero was violent and uncontrollable before given the virus. Example: Wily- "Heck, I can't control this SOB so I'm just gonna seal him away and make him a walking time bomb! AHAHAHA!!" So in X5 Zero's more functional and when he awakens he's able to carry out his mission more effectivly than before. But hell, at this point I'm just talking out my ass.
