(Yeah i know, the proportioning is way off)

This is a homebrew project of mine. I've been constantly chipping away, and now I think it's starting to take shape. It's not exactly megaman x related, unfortunately, but it does have megaman's sister roll (although quite modified).

Game Description -

You play as megaman's sister Roll. I based her on the Roll from the Megaman cartoon, (voices and everything). You fight a variety of Female Robo Bosses (Robot Masters) and you can actually absorb their power during battle (Yeah i know, Roll couldn't do that in the cartoon,but...) Right now there are only 5 robo bosses, but I'm hoping to get 24 in total. If i ever get all 24 bosses in, I'll eventually add wily stages.

Um... isn't Roll modeled after a ten year old? I'm sorry, it just really gets to me when someone portrays her or Rock in a really mature way like that. It just seems very inappropriate and out of place. I'm very modest in my own dressing irl I can't really take this seriously with Roll's ass sticking out at me.

Off putting is the exact right word. The project is interesting and it looks like you've put in a lot of work. The ass shot makes it feel cheap.

In my defence, it's just the way i draw, sorry. My older brother told me the same thing. He said, "Those girls have BIG BOOBS!" What could i say? Honestly, I never really noticed until he pointed it out to me. Sorry, I just don't notice these things sometimes until it's pointed out to me ^_^...

Well, since the subject is the artwork at the moment.. I personally like how it is, particularly at 1:04 in the video with the "Power Absorb" sequence. I mean it's not bad, I'm really liking how everything is colored and drawn. but I understand what others are saying, I would be a liar if I said it wasn't a bit distracting. Though like you said, it's just how you draw. An artist should stick to his or hers guns.


Though on the subject of the game, it definitely does look very interesting! liking how it's based on the Roll from the show.

Wow, a PSONE game. This is new for me, is it a hack o you used something like net yaroze? I never tried indie console game making, and is something unusual (since you are using a fifth generation platform).

Well, talking about the game itself, it is interesting, maybe the drawing is a bit weird for a Mega Man game, the gameplay is very impressive. Keep working on it ;)

PS: Damn... a couple of months without posting frequently and my english started to suck in the worst way possible xD.

Interesting article about the Male gaze in videogames. Not saying anyone is a misogynist or anything, but there is a gap between being a misogynist and creating an open community.

Sorry, I had to look up what misogyny meant. Those articles about Male gaze were interesting, but As far as I can tell, I'm not misogynist. I just have overactive imagination circuits ^_^

Like I said, it's not necessarily just about misogyny. You don't have to hate women yourself to do things that promote misogyny or discomfort for females in your community. Our culture basically promotes that inherently, so it's up to you to recognize what is and isn't appropriate. As it stands, Roll's ass in this game and some of the other robot designs reflect somewhat poorly on you. This isn't to say that you shouldn't have sexuality in your game, but you should pick your spots a little better. Personally, I'd be a lot more comfortable playing your game, which is a very interesting and exciting project overall, if you changed the screen with Roll's ass.

Sorry if I'm too nosy, but what kind of compiler did you use? I doubt you can use gcc for playstation MISP machine

Actually, you can. I'm using the Official Sony Dev-kit (PSY-q), but

The compiler that Sony supply is a version of the GNU C compiler, for
> DOS, with MIPS set as the target platform.

and

Net Yaroze compiler. The Yaroze comes with a version of gcc/as, built to run under DOS/Windows and targetted for a little endian MIPS processor.

So yeah, i'm using the supplied binaries to compile, but it's still gcc, just pre-compiled for convenience.
