So, just WHAT does "X" mean anyway? Not just 10

I ask this because, although this is not entirely "Mega Man" X related, I had a pet Red Fox 15 years ago as some of you may know, named "Vixey" like the one in the Disney movie "The Fox & the Hound" (No I did not come up with that name right away, I had planned on getting a male Red Fox and naming him Vik after a fox in another animated movie called "The Little Fox" so since she was a female, because she was the only Red Fox available that year, her name was "?????" for her first few vet vaccination visits, then I just eventually named her Vixey, thinking it was the easy thing to do. Well, now, next spring, if all goes well, I should be getting another female Red Fox, and I was originally going to name her "Lumine" since Lumine sounds like a girl's name and he looks like a girl, and Lumine IS my second favorite Mega Man character after Zero as first, but now I was starting to think, "I liked the name Vixey a lot, so, why not call her "Vixey X"? I mean, I'd likely call her Vixey most of the time, and not X because X seems more like a guy's name, and I doubt I'd call her Vixey "X" by full name either. I just wanted the X in there because I am guessing that these "Xs" represent a future generation of a past generation.
So, please, before the mods move or lock this topic, could they please leave it up for a day or so, so I can read replies as to peoples different views on the meaning of "X"? I know its not much of a Mega Man X topic, but it does touch the subject.

DSL, DSL, DSL... What are we going to do with you...
Have you ever watched Day of Sigma..?
Go watch it right now. Right as you are reading this sentence. Your answer is right in that little OVA.
Go on, watch it. I'll wait here for YOU to tell ME what 'X' stands for.
as for other series, its really just a rule of cool name, it sounds like something super or souped up version of something.
and if this wasnt Megaman related, then why did you post it here? theres a chitchat board for a reason.

Read what Flame said. There is NO set value. X means nothing or anything. It's up to him. X represents his FREE WILL. That he can choose whatever he wants.

though I think its the former as the latter is at a time where Dr light is too old and too delusional and is Alzheimer struck and everyday he would forget what he named his prized possession so he stuck to something easy...poor thang...

X is only a stand in for the most part, no matter how it is used, when not dealing with Alphabet, roman numeral or some form of Title, which would be it's own interpretation.

Otherwise, it might be a shortcut for 'extra'.

"I am X. My name is a variable of infinite value."
And in X1, the WARNING of Dr. Light says something to the effect that X has many possibilities.
I agree with the algebraic X=unkown value.
X: What is it Alia? (I guess she does have feelings for me.)
Alia: Um...nothing! Just don't do anything dangerous. OK?
X: Uhh...sure Alia. (Is she kidding??? That's my job!!!)
