16 June 2013 - 04:40 PMThe eternal debate, does Reploid/Repliroid stand for Replicated Android, in reference to being replicas of X?
That is what many people believe, simply because the story says the are based on X, and the are called Reploids. SO IT MUST BE TRUE.
I would however, argue, that no, thats not what that means. I never really believed it to be that way, either. Makes more sense to me, that the term replica refers to Humans, not X. After all, they are designed to be as Human as possible. They can think feel and make decisions on a Human level.
Could it be instead, that certain aspects of the Mega Man X setting and story, were inspired by Blade Runner? For one, the term used to refer to Androids- Reploid, reminds me of Replicant. Or perhaps the way that killing a Replicant is described not as "murder" or "killing", but as "retirement". Or even the fact that there is a group of the police dedicated to hunting down rouge Androids. I would go so far as to say, that even the idea of one particular Reploid being more advanced than the rest, more intricately Human, reflects Blade Runner's Rachel, who was given memories, and an undisclosed lifespan, to be more convincingly Human.
Just my thoughts in regards to the argument that always arises as to why Reploids are named Reploids and what it represents, I'm no doubt Slowpoking on this, but whatever.
