That's the first time in some months that I logged in, but I have to say:
I'm totally for this idea! With some more polish, and environmental similarity with the classic MMX games, this would've been A-OK! This was an early alpha, 6-months in development. So it didn't right away resemble the MMX we know and love. However, Metroid Prime's beta also looked really different, and look at the final. 100% Metroid in FPS form. I wonder what Zero would look like in that "gritty" style and how he would play.. -

I'm currently making a sprite animation about Protoman MKII, and I was gonna enhance the dialogue by putting in some voice clips...but I have to find them first. I liked the way he sounded in the MM8 ending better, because the voice sounds older. It matches Protoman MKII more...
That's what he looks like:

Is this what you mean?
Thank you! That's what I meant. I should've specified Classic Protoman from the start :/
That voice was just how I pictured him sounding...now that I know where to find Protoman's voice, I'll download the clip, convert it to MP3 and cut out the voices. -

Very good stuff there! I was speechless at some of that stuff shown. Those could've lent themselves nicely to more SNES-like games...before the dawn of the GBA. The tech was there. The Resident Evil GBC port attested to that- it was a 100% port of a PSX game, save for graphics, running on an 8-bit handeld. Really thought provoking what under-powered hardware is capable of. -

Sonic R was my first Sonic game ever. Don't flame it like that!
I've had the blessing of playing that game without the horrid music, because at the time, I played it on PC and that copy didn't have the music with it.
Good things about the game:
- 1 It had a ton of cool characters. You could play as more obscure characters, such as Tails Doll, Eggrobo, Metal Knuckles.
- 2 It was a 3D Sonic game that felt closest to the 2D game's physics. If you let go of the arrow keys, your character would keep going for a bit before stopping.
- 3 Although there's few stages, there's much you could do in them. You could collect the Chaos Emeralds (which let you unlock Super Sonic [the first time you could play as him in a 3D Sonic in any level, anywhere as opposed to only in the end]) , and get the five medallions in order to unlock the bonus characters, which add replayability to them.
Bad things about the game:
- 1 Awkward turning. It helps if you use the leaning functions to make the turns sharper, but they could've improved that.
- 2 Way too short. If there were more levels, that would've did it some more justice.
- 3 The horrid, nauseating soundtrack. After I heard it several years later, I was shocked. How could such a soundtrack kill off an otherwise solid attempt at a 3D Sonic? That seemed to discourage people from taking it too seriously.
There was much unseen potential in this game, and I wish they used the mechanics of this game in a single-player Sonic with bosses and a story. The settings in this game are quite beautiful, atmospheric (once again, the music completely kills it, so play it WITHOUT it). On the PC version, the weather is randomly generated, even adding more to the atmosphere. This Sonic game also suffers because it's frequently compared to Mario Kart 64, which I find weird. Asides from the racing component, they don't seem that similar after all. End of mini-rant about Sonic R. - 1 It had a ton of cool characters. You could play as more obscure characters, such as Tails Doll, Eggrobo, Metal Knuckles.
