I finally found a full PC version of Megaman x4, and it even has a BGM file with files inside. The problem though is that I still get no music and cut scenes! What's up with that?

I think that ends up being a bad copy of it or something. I'm not sure what but I had the same issue.

I believe it's a compatibility issue This game was released in 1997 Windows XP wasn't even out yet

I could be wrong but i think this was meant to only run Correctly on older OS's....i mean the game still plays but just not the cut scenes & music

I have the same problem and I've tried every thing to fix it.....I Had a Copy of X1 on Disk and it has a very similar problem game plays alright just no music....game works perfectly fine tho if i run it on an OLD computer

Any way sorry can really help lol i tend to just make a kick ass playlist on Windows media Player of some songs that inspire me to play X4 and let it be my music best fix for a broken silent game i suppose

There's a fix for this. I believe getting K-Lite Codec pack fixes it but I'll make sure. Basically, it's codec issues though, I'll edit this post with a fix ASAP.


EDIT: Alright, here is the needed codec by itself, as recommended by a GameFAQS user who had the same issue. IV50 Codec I downloaded and scanned it for you as well, virus free according to Avast! AV =]

Furthermore, K-Lite codec pack may or may not have it, (I could swear it does because I don't remember installing anything else.) but it'll also help you with playing many other old games, or simply working with old video/audio formats, as it includes codec support for... well, basically every video and audio format ever lol So if you want, here is K-Lite: K-Lite

I recommend the Mega pack. You can install the 64 bit pack if you're on 64, but it's highly unlikely you'll need it.

No, there's a much simpler way. Because it's made for older Windows (Win95 I think), you right click it, press Properties, and in Compatibility Mode, select Windows 95 and hit apply. It worked on multiple computers after I did that.

Really? I couldn't get that to work on mine personally, actually, I rarely see compatibility mode work but that's a whole different story haha I read it's because the codec wasn't included on Windows Vista and 7 (Microsoft phasing this and that out all the time) and was, as you mentioned, included in Windows 9x versions, I think XP possibly as well but not sure on it. But that's awesome it works for you, hopefully that works for others as well! Certaintly quicker!

Anyway, I play the Megaman X4 for PC often, so I have knowledge in that area. At first, I couldn't get it to work either, and then I was trying to get the Vids IW50 codec to get the in-game video to work. It didn't work when I found out you couldn't use it w/ Windows 7. Eventually, I came across a forum which someone resolved it with the Compatibility mode. It would also help if the MP3 files were in the BGM folder too, try that if they're not there. Oh and whatever you do, make sure to run as administrator. Hope that helps!

Ok, i think the best way to do this is install Direct X if you have not already done so or the other option is installing A codec pack, that's what worked for me anyway.
