Ooh, I love philosophical questions like this.

Assuming you mean MMUniverse, a lot or very little can be said if you think about it.

First of all, without X, Mavericks wouldn't exist. 'cause there'd be nothing to counter-act his existence of Limitless Potential. There would be no such thing as Reploids.

Dr. Light & Dr. Wily forseeably died some time around the end of the 21st Century or maybe in the very beginning of 21XX, depending on where that event really landed, on the gray scale of time between franchises.

With their deaths and no one to carry on Dr. Light's work, it's very possible or completely possible that no one carried on Dr. Wily's work either. Which means, the Robot Masters would have been no more. Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass... all of them, gone.

Perhaps the Humans would prevail. Maybe they were even considered the Bad Guy? World War III anyone?

I always imagined some sort of Nuclear Bombing event happening sometime in late 20XX, between franchies, creating a desolate world before rebuilding again in 21XX.

I don't know. X brought new hope to a new world that needed him, but along with it he also unwillingly brought a new world of Chaos.

Perhaps... Wily still would have eventually been reincarnated in Serges. And perhaps Zero would have still reigned supreme when he woke up, only this time.. instead of being a Savage Beast, he might have grown to develop his full personality as an awakened Omega within a matter of months or years.

It's very interesting to think what would've happened in a world without X... Good question.

And in a Real World without MMX, none of us would be here right now. Period.

Assuming no X also indicates no Zero. There wouldn't have been reploids, advanced technology would be hindered for a time. Many lives would be lost due to other methods.

If Zero remains but X doesn't, Wily wins in the end.

In any case it is human's nature to repeat mistakes. Eventually another scientists would try to built sentinent robots and by extension those who bear the potencial to make their own decisions like Blues was capable to do so. In the end the technology would give birth to another Sigma or better another Braiking Boss.
While the removal of X would have prevented Sigma to ever to exist, it would not have stopped the eventual rise of a artificial enity, which could rebell on its own arcord and bring disaster to the world.

The bigger question is, if X never happened, what would Wily have done with Zero? Zero was made to defeat Rock and Bass, but sealed away due to a cognitive program flaw making him violent and disobedient. When he learned of X, he re purposed Zero to defeat X. If X never existed though, what would Wily have done with Zero?

What if he was discovered instead of X? What if he was subdued by the military and eventually Reploids based off of him were made?

Would Wily have made the Sigma Virus if Light never made X?

If so, then Zero's awakening would have no impact due to the virus. He would just be a rampaging red robot, whom the military would deal with.

but could they deal with him? Possibly, once they get a good assessment of his violence and strength.

Would he be subdued and possibly repaired? Or would he be destroyed and studied later?

Again, what if his design yielded reploids?

Considering the Military would have dealt with him, would any robots yielded from his design be used in the military? Would reploids become a military tool?

Soo many questions...

-Even if X doesnt exist,zero will still remain.
- I dont believe Willy or Light knew about each other projects
- Maybe Light discovered that new energy when he repaired bass on MM7
- Lets say zero wakes up, and its subdue by the government, maybe because humanity doesnt have reploids, they focus their attention on the cyberspace and OMGGGGG!!! ZERO INFECTS THE CYBERSPACE!!! AND THATS HOW SKYNET IS BORN!!!! loll

Half wrong. Light did not know about Zero. Wily however, did somehow catch wind of X.

So then, Zero definitely would have surfaced as a Red Maverick, but Flame did put up an excellent point before. Would he still have a deadly virus in his gem, or would he just be a red raging robut?

Except that Keiji Inafune himself requested Hayato Kaji to design X out of concern that his design wouldn't be approved on its own.

This series like, changed my life... As silly as that sounds. So it's really disconcerting to hear that it was never supposed to be the way it is.

I agree with this assessment. I think the original Maverick Virus Wily created was derived from Roboenza (which in turn may be the result of studying Evil Energy).
So regardless of whether or not elements of X's design were incorporated into Zero, Zero and the virus would be created nonetheless.

Wily had no way of knowing that the world of the future would be populated by Reploids and not Robot Masters, so it's highly likely the Maverick Virus also affects Robot Masters. The Maverick Virus might work even better upon Robot Masters than upon Reploids, putting them directly under Wily's will rather than simply making them go crazy.

Who knows? Assuming Wily incorporated parts of X's design into Zero, it probably made Zero more powerful, but maybe it also made it easier for Zero to break free of Wily's control. Without X's free-thinking capabilities, Zero may have been just another loyal footsoldier to Wily spreading his master's will along with the virus.
Zero needed to be damaged in his battle with Sigma before he could start thinking for himself, but at least the capability was there.
