Why yes, it is very official and there's the amazing trailer to prove it.

After the somewhat of letdown that was RE5...well...in my opinion...judging from this trailer...I think Capcom will exponentially redeem themselves. It looks like Capcom has FINALLY done something VERY right. It's rather odd not feeling even an ounce of need to voice a complaint against Capcom because from this reveal, it looks like they're on the right track. What say you? The plot and what it seems to entail seems very interesting and pretty dark.

Also gotta love that moment in the trailer when Chris slides in for cover ala like most Over-the-Shoulder shooters and the Bandersnatch-lookin' creature yanks him from behind it. What a little stab ;D.

This actually seems pretty cool. The RE series is something Capcom hasn't really screwed up badly at any point.

i saw this on capcom twitter some days ago but IMO RE games are kinda boring cause its like the clasic megaman in it was just jump and shot things and RE is run and shot ofc it have storyline like all games but meh im not realy a fan of RE movies are great tho

Well, by that philosophy, every game would be boring, since every game is technically repetitive. It's just a matter of if it feels repetitive in a bad way to you. In Call of Duty, you run around and shoot people. Same goes for Halo and Gears of War. In L.A. Noire, you go around, questioning and shooting people. In Uncharted, you jump, solve puzzles, and shoot more people. In Assassin's Creed, you climb and kill people.

And actually, I seem to have the opposite train of thought. I love the games, but I think the movies lack the compelling story that the games do.

On an unrelated note, it seems that RE6 is going to go back to its original roots, while keeping in touch with the modern roots. It seems Leon's gameplay will be the one that focuses on the original horror aspects of the original games, Chris's gameplay will focus on the action aspects of the modern games, and then there's that third guy who I don't know.

I honestly lost interest in the RE series since it drastically changed its gameplay style since RE4. Not that I'm bashing the new games. RE4 was pretty fun and the shoot-em-up Chronicles games on the Wii were great (haven't played RE5 though). They're good games but I just wish they went back to the original gameplay of the older games. Sure, it almost felt like you were playing a robot at times but it was easy to get used to the controls if you kept up with it. The last game in that gameplay style was RE Outbreak: File #2 (and that wasn't really too good IMO). I heard that one of the chapters in RE5 had old-school gameplay in it, but it was only one chapter nonetheless.

I really need to get on track with the series and play RE5 sometime, though. That's the ONLY one I haven't played in the main series. Even though I've lost inerest in the series, I should probably try it out anyway.

At least we got zombies again.

I don't understand why people keep wanting 'classic zombies' back. They're slow, dull and kind of boring. With how the virus has evolved enormously there'd have to be expectations of evolving creatures and such that come with it. If every single game was just the classic zombies honestly the series would suck so bad then :/ It'd be too repetitive and boring.

The game actually had to take an action turn with it because everything is literally changing. It's still survival but it's in a much more action/thrilled way. Taking the points story wise, expecting the same thing to be there for over 10 years is actually quite ridiculous from a stand point :/

I have to agree with justin here. The virus has indeed grown and changed over time. It seems only natural that the zombies would changed with it into something a bit more than lumbering buffoons. That type of zombie is a relic from the older games in which the suspenseful camera angles worked well and actually gave them somewhat of an advantage. If they still behaved the same with the RE4 style Over-the-Shoulder mechanics, then well...it'd be Dead Rising lol. That's not to say the classic games are bad by any means as they are a part of mostly every gamers life and have made their mark as some of the greatest out there. Of course, then RE4 came and took everyone by storm and blew them away. It's honestly one of the best games ever made and I played the absolute hell out of it. The OtS mechanic was new and fresh and effective and gave the games a faster flow of action yet somehow still retained that forlorn sense of doom. RE5 obviously tried to compete with it's older brother and in my opinion, fell short of the mark somehow somewhere. You're not missing much by not playing though it is a good game and VERY pretty graphic wise. Perhaps everyone had high expectations after the masterpiece that was 4...but how could they not? Now that enough time has passed, I feel Capcom has finally concocted a true, revolutionary successor to it's milestone. Regular Zombies, not Ganados or Majini (as far as I see) infect the world in 6, so we can surely expect some classic thrills littered throughout. ;)

Needless to say, my hopes are high for this beast.

Capcom did a creative twist on the zombies in the RE remake by introducing the "crimson head" villains (i.e., zombies would come back by turning into those vicious red things that could run -- freaky stuff). They could have done more cool things like that with them. And how are they boring? In the classic games, I personally felt a ton of suspense when there were several zombies in a confined area such as a hallway and ammo was limited. That kind of suspense rarely happened to me in RE4 (it did happen, but not just very often like it was in the older games). RE4 didn't really have much of the creepy music either, which is what I missed as well. Also, the enemies in RE4 didn't even have the T-virus; they had the Las Plagas parasite instead, which is way different. I dunno too much about RE5, but I think it was a different virus that affected the creatures too from what I've heard.

It's still survival, true, but hardly what I consider survival horror. Sadly, the reason they changed it so much is probably because it wasn't really selling too well when they stayed in the original course of the classic style, as opposed to the series starting to "suck so bad", as you eloquently put it. Fans of the classic series got shafted because of that. :-(

And considering this IS Capcom we're talking about here, it's not ridiculous to expect that at all. Keep in mind they are well-known for sticking to the same formula throughout most of their highest-selling franchises (Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Ghosts n' Goblins, etc.). RE6 actually seems more like Gears of War meets zombies than Resident Evil to me, but whatever. At least we got Leon again. I have mixed feelings about the new game.

Just because it doesn't have the 'classic' stuff doesn't mean it's essentially bad as so many hardcore fans tend to put it. Though it does lose a lot of its horror I can agree with that, but there's some spots that are like HOLY SHIT and get ya. Not nearly as many though I can agree.

Resident Evil 5 I believe was a more evolved form of Las Plagas. I haven't played it in awhile but I think thats what it was. Plus that's the game where Wesker officially is dead ._.

But I'm just loving the games more for storyline purposes. I want to see what they all do. Gameplay wise, as long as its fun I don't really care. Expecting the same things with a slight change seems rather far fetched especially with Capcom :/

CODE Veronica was really worth it! I'm glad they re-released it on PSN and Xbox Live. Although it was really hard (re-started it 3 times), it was epic story-wise. Alfred and Alexia weren't your typical villans either- I was disturbed by them as if they were crazy mental-asylum residents. If were lucky, maybe there'll be a "classic" option to switch to pre-rendered angles in Resident Evil 6.

Looks awesome to me. 3 different characters bringing 3 different atmospheric vibes into the action; can't say no to that in my opinion.

Though I keep hearing a minor complaint about the horror aspect nowadays, like finding too much ammo or health items because it'll lose that "survival" aspect and all that jazz. Well damn it if you look at this RE 6 now, there's still going to be plenty of ammo and other goodies anyways since Capcom is still intent on using that over-the-shoulder style for shooting. Plus with Chris's level, your in a squad, so expect to find lots of goods.

Don't know about Leon's area, maybe they'll it tone down with the shooting and more on the hit and running if you know what I mean. The third guy seems to have the President's daughter with him (from RE4) so I think there's going to be some co-op survival there: running, jumping, escaping like a platformer but don't take my word for it.

Also where in the hell is that damn Merchant? I kinda miss that fella saying, "ELLO STRANGA WHADDA BUYIN?"

My first reaction to this? "Holy shit we're getting zombies back? Colour me interested!"

I'm sorry, but the Las Plagas enemies from RE4 and RE5 were just.. meh. They weren't Resident Evil enemies, they were more like something out of Dead Space or some sci-fi thriller like The Faculty-- actually, you know what? They were exactly like the enemy in The Faculty! Parasitic tentacle monsters that disguise themselves perfectly as regular people and are connected via hivemind? Seriously, that's not "an evolution of the virus", that's a completely different enemy altogether.

I don't mind if the virus causes new monsters to appear, new breeds of zombies - like someone already said, the Crimson Heads were an evolution of the standard zombie, giving them the ability to run - I just want things to keep in with what the stories were about in the first place; insane virus that keeps mutating and evolving and keeps getting refined and employed in new ways.

Seriously, in every other game the virus is always employed differently, or some offshoot or subspecies of the virus is created. Every game except RE4 and RE5. And those were the games I didn't like, because - excluding the fact alone that RE5 felt more like an action-shooter instead of a survival horror game - they didn't seem to fit at all.

So yeah, I'm happy to see the zombies return.

I'm wondering if Resident Evil will totally go back to zombies no or what considering Wesker was the one who had the newer Las Plagas and all that. Then again, there's Tricel to deal with and then the sample Ada had taken of the G-Virus and such ._. There's a lot of open ends for games.

Well, zombies are fine by me since they ARE the default enemy, and they DO work for when the games are meant to be about survival horror with low ammunition and struggling to get by. The last thing you want is an enemy like the Las Plagas, which are more suited to 'mow them down with an automatic and unlimited ammo' styles of gameplay, when you're dealing with limited supply situations. I mean, let's put it this way.. imagine if all the zombies from RE2 were replaced with Las Plagas in hostile mode, but your starting gear is the same: a knife and twelve handgun bullets and perhaps some spare ammo. You're dead. That doesn't mean the Las Plagas are a 'better enemy', rather that they are suited to a totally different style of gameplay.

Wow. I am REALLY excited for this game. Don't know how to explain it...it just looks like Capcom pushed the bar. Maybe equaling or excelling past RE4. Heck, it looks like it may be a new thrill in and of itself. Day 1 purchase for me.
