It is more like the typical fictional stereotypical 'Ninja' illustration.

I do think that he bears somewhat of a resemblance to Regulus from bomberman 64, but thats debatable.

I would have used Hotsuma from Shinobi on PS2 as an example instead of Ryu Hayabusa.

While it's true the typical ninja design has a flowing scarf, Ryu's is rather short compared to Siarnaq and Strider's and it isn't red. Also, his hair is covered.
