In my case, most of my classmates at my high school call me "immature" or "childish" just because they found out I still like and play Mega Man. I didn't mind them at first, but now they're really starting to hurt my feelings.
The problem is that they think of the Mega Man games as games or toys "Meant for 4 year olds". Please, has anyone seen a 4-year old kid finish a Mega Man X game? Or even a Battle Network game?
They don't see the light that "Mega Man" is a icon known, worshiped and loved by gamers worldwide. It's not just aimed at kids, it can also be for teenagers and even adults. Mega Man is all about shooting, blasting, surviving...
You can also learn valuable life lessons from the Franchise, like Zero's belief in fighting for the people who believes in him or Life is never a gift meant to be corrupted...
Sadly, my classmates will NEVER realize all that. Moving to another school can't be an option for me either...
They're not really gamers anyway, in fact, I think the only game they play is DOTA, which IMO is BORING.
So there... Have YOU ever gotten in a situation similar to mine?

@starforcenetwrok: I agree on people not understanding...but that's something you have to just bare with. I had to, trust me. We don't have many gamers in my town either (Other than friends and relatives of mine), so it's only natural for them to think that way. If anything, games that are NOT related to shooter/sports makes people of the common view see other genres as childish, which is quite stupid to me. But you'll be fine. Just defend yourself and Mega Man if necessary. Don't let the common view take over, for everlasting peace! (I had to do it...) Although by the time High School rolled in, I kept silent about my likings entirely. Not just to avoid stuff like that, but also because I wasn't much of a talker...XD

Back in elementary school, I decided to do a show and tell project - I chose Megaman 8 and I bought both my Megaman 8 game and a Marvel vs Capcom Megaman action figure (War Machine came with the Megaman action figure). Many students looked at me funny... as if I was crazy for LIKING a inspirational video game character. I didn't really expect in a elementary school. During music and PE class, many students pretty much kept trying to remind me that "Megaman sucks, man!" And they did it as they were giving thumbs down. I never took them seriously...
The fact many students at my school were actually allowed to play video games DURING the school day does not help either - when it was my turn, the VERY game I put in was... Megaman X and Megaman X2. That's right. There have also been occasions that would PRETEND to be Megaman X while skateboarding or playing in a team soccer game.
The upside to this however, is that I actually got many others interested in the Megaman series - and many students AND teachers was actually aware of who Megaman is and why I believed he was awesome during the show and tell. Not only did get some amount of respect in the end but I actually became a better athlete and I got better grades overtime.
So for me... it was X vs Vile all over again. I was X. The bullies were Vile. The bullies laughed and chastised me. My friends and family were the "Zero" that picked me up when I was down. I motivated myself to grow better - I eventually stopped caring that people hated me because I liked X (and the Megaman series in general). Soon, I beat the bullies at their own game in the end, just like X defeated Vile. Never underestimate will power and potential...
Then here's me again in HIGH SCHOOL... and this was actually about a year and half ago. I did a Microsoft Power Point Presentation on renewable energy resources for my chemistry class - I used many images of Megaman X himself to make look as if HE was speaking, as if it were a comic book. The teacher fortunately enjoyed my Presentation, along with a handful of other students and my friends... but, then there was the group of students who called me a immature loser... and I also heard people mocking me saying that "he likes anime..." No!
It is common knowledge that X is not an anime character; he is a video game character.
Secondly, children would be able to play the majority of Megaman games so easily - most of the people who did make fun of me didn't even play video games in the first place. We are not the same person. We are individuals. If I want to support Megaman and the X series, then I WILL support it!!!
It's hard to be a fan of Megaman X. But, I don't care - Megaman X is where I have gotten my motivation to play video games and become a game designer in the first place. He is just one of those characters that inspire me to do better. Megaman X represents limitless potential - and I intend on reinforcing that fact both directly and indirectly.

Online, a few guys constantly point out that I like Mega Man, but I counter that like ChibiSaw does. It's all in good humor anyways.

Every now and then, there's a douchebag or two who says Megaman Is gay, but sometimes it gets me, sometimes it doesn't.

However, I noticed a sharp decline in people talking about Mega Man nowadays.

Seriously now, people who like dumb games like GoW, WoW, CoD, don't like tactical and cerebral games like Megaman X.
And when talking isn't enough... I have to kick some asses. At times, idiots can only hear the fist's voice.

And you know what? My brother went to school to design video games, got a job testing them, and is designing his first video game with his business partner. My fiance and I are writing the music for him, our friend who is a brilliant artist is doing the artwork. It's gonna be an amazing game. I have faith that my brother will be another squarenix or capcom one day.

Now I can not agree with this. ALL games require tactics and strategic knowledge to some extent, we just find some games more enjoyable than others. I LOVE megaman, but I also love WoW, Halo (when played with a bunch of people) survival horror games like Fatal Frame and Resident Evil, RPGs such as Final Fantasy, Lunar, and Legend of Dragoon.
People shouldn't call you dumb for liking Megaman, and you shouldn't call them dumb for liking CoD, Fifa, WoW and GoW. They aren't dumb games just because you don't particularly enjoy playing them.

In survival horror/stealth games like RE and Tenchu, for example, this kind of player will never make a proper progress, and sadly, the game market is full of non-brained costumers who seek for walkthroughs made by players like you, who played the goddamned hard old games. That's why games are getting easy and dumb, because people is getting easy and dumb, too :(

I think that the issue is not the difficulty of a game, but rather about how players play and enjoy the game.
Today, most players want to pick up a game well and have fun with it before exploring the deep ends of the game. If a game is too hard to pick up in a reasonable amount of time, the players might get discouraged and not play the game anymore.
There needs to be a balance in fun factor and gameplay more than anything.

I think the reason for the difficulty (or lack there of) in modern games is because of the length of a lot of games as well. If you notice, older games are technically a lot shorter, but because they were so hard the gameplay lasted a lot longer.
But I can agree with Alia that there is a certain group of people who flock to the GoW and CoD type gameplay.... >.> usually casual gamers. These games are designed for the casual gamer but poor lots of money into marketing to make the game look like it's the popular thing to do, thus people buy PS3s and XBox360s and then go out and play these games because it's "popular." When it gets too hard they use a walkthrough. Which is why I say that all games require some level of skill. Either way I don't think anyone should be flamed for what kind of games they play.
