@Ganon: Beast of Darkness . . . with a Maverick name like that you don't even have to think about the jokes; it's already there. Blurt that name out randomly and I bet 2 out of 3 people will just laugh out of nowhere, or at least a giggle.


Shield Shelldon, not that bad of a name but doesn't sound threatening enough or cool either. Well at least they didn't go with Oyster Boister, which I randomly thought out of my head when I first saw this guy.

I will rate all mavericks 1-6 and then decide worst maverick name and worst maverick.
I will rate all normal non-boss mavericks by four points in this order. 1 for sounding good, 1 for originality,
1 for fitting the maverick theme, and 1 if the name fits the mavericks abilities.

So based on my evaluation the worst name for maverick must be one of the zero scoring
entries.

Those Entries Are:

WIRE SPONGE

VIOLEN

AXL THE RED

All quite equally stupid names in the series but I think one stands above the rest. Violen's name by itself is an oxymoron, but it helps
him fit into his band of cultists. Wire sponge is even worse because it fails to describe the maverick much like Axl the red.
Personally I believe

AXL THE RED

is the worst name in the series because its one defining adjetive is red and its noun completely redundant. at least wire sponge makes
an attempt to describe what is essentially greehouse ,whip yielding, vegetable. Its no wonder that the worst name of the series would
come from x5 where all the maverick names are named after guns and roses members.

When the names started going from "element+animal" to "just a generic name", I stopped caring.

As silly as some of the names sound (Split Mushroom, Wheel Gator, Crystal Snail, Rainy Turleloid), they still, in my opinion, fit how a maverick name should be.

And by that, I mean "boss with 2 names = stage boss maverick", "boss with 1 name = important to the plot maverick". (Vile, Sigma, Colonel [inb4notamaverick])

But if I had to pick a specific, I will ask this:

Despite being a Fire-type, I believe that none of Botos's attacks contain the Fire attribute. Ironically, his Preon counterpart known as Preon S Botos does have a generic Fire Attribute Mega Fire attack.

I liked a few of the X5 Mavericks' names. For example i liked 'Squid Adler' and 'Grizzly Slash.' Personally i would have named the Mavericks thus:

I can't stand Duff McWhalen's name, but i can't think of any way it could have been improved without dropping the Guns 'N Roses motif, so if that were the only weird localized name i could forgive it for the sake of consistency.

Commander Yammark's name just sounds weird in English. I couldn't tell you what a 'yammar' is, given that the word for dragonfly is 'tonbo' in Japanese. The closest thing i could find on the internet is that 'Yammar' is/was the name of a popular Japanese company that just so happens to have a "tonbo" as its mascot.
Maybe "yammar" refers to the sound a dragonfly makes?
Either way it sounds like it should have been translated. So 'Commander Yammark' ties with 'Duff McWhalen' for my second-least favorite Maverick name.

My absolute least favorite Maverick name of all is 'Vanishing Gungaroo.' In what way does he vanish!? It makes no sense!!
What is worse is that this is basically the same as his Japanese name, 'Banishingu Gangarun (Vanishing Gungaroon).'

Much better in my opinion would be 'Boxing Gungaroo,' since it adequately represents what he is. I've heard people say this would have been too literal, but i think it fits nicely. Otherwise, he should have been 'Smoking Gungaroo' in reference to the term "smoking gun." A "smoking gun" is a piece of evidence at a crime scene that makes the perpetrator of the crime super-obvious. I.e., if someone's gun is giving off smoke, then it's obviously just been fired. In a metaphorical sense, Gungaroo is a walking, talking "smoking gun:" he's the complete opposite of stealth. He just goes in and destroys everything with his Ride Armor.
So 'Smoking Gungaroo' would be an appropriate name for him. ^_^
