Do you mean making an X game in the beat-em up genre, Lumine? If so, while I could see a game like that working, I don't think people would support it as an X9 title; what with nitpicking and such these days. I could easily see X outfitted with a slew of maneuvering moves to keep away from the enemy along with one powerful knock-back move so he could keep on spamming his long range attacks.
But if you mean a typical X game, only with the ability to "walk up and down", I guess that'd be a litle interesting. I'd love to fight Shadow Devil on those terms, or see how trollish they could get with spike traps. lol

The idea he's saying... Just Battle Network Fighting Gameplay style, except you aren't restricted to spots on the field, and it's like this the entire level.

I have to say that I would like that. X7 had its own format. X8 had its own. Why not X9? The game would have to require a free scroll format but still have only two main pathways.
Example:

Lets pretend that screenshot is a level in X9. Your character could still walk as close to the camera as possible but is likely to fall in the water. Your character could walk in the doorway in the background which might appear to be a secret room, shop, or whatever. But the main path is moving from left to right.
I like this idea, Lumine. I'm in on this.

Well it kind of did. Camera angles would change when your character walks around a corner. Like in the Panda's stage, you could walk around the fountain and then later see it in the background. But whatever.
Scott Pilgrim VS. The World, huh? I haven't played that one, but it looks interesting.

See it on YouTube. It's EXACTLY like what DSL's trying to get across.

In any case, my point is that those 3D sidescrollers aren't the only thing that's 2,5D.
I know it's just wikipedia, but what they say is:

http://en.wikipedia....l_playing_field
It basically means that it's a classic, 2D style game that has modern 3D graphics. You could make a Golden Axe game with 3D graphics and call it 2.5D, but Golden Axe itself is not 2.5D unless there is a Golden Axe remake that I'm not aware of. I guess the main point, though, is that 2.5D doesn't really explain the gameplay, just the style of graphics. Megaman X8 has the gameplay as X1-X6, for the most part, but 1-6 are 2D games and X8 is 2.5D.
