Inafune Apologizes for the Cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3
Posted on July 20th, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"
Many have been hit hard by the announcement of Mega Man Legends 3‘s cancellation, which one can easily attest by looking at how many comments we received on our post delivering the news. It is a truly considerable outpouring, perhaps a site record and is even comparable to how many the announcement itself received. Add to this the response on many other sites who have picked up the story, and it is clear that many have been affected by the news.
And among the affected is Legends series creator Keiji Inafune. And I know that some of you hate it whenever we post something about Inafune after he left Capcom, but tough– this is relevant.
The former Capcom executive posted to his blog today an apology to staff and fans alike for what has transpired. While he did not address the game by name, his intent was clear as he wrote “The decision for the cancellation was out of my sphere, but as someone who took part in the development, I’d like to convey something to the staff: I’m sorry that I couldn’t be of assistance.”
According to Andriasang, who summarized the Japanese post, his assistance may not have been needed (beyond simply keeping the project from being scrapped, anyway. –Ed.), as he went on to say that the staff had such “tremendous motivation” that his help was unnecessary. This makes him all the more saddened by the cancellation, though he encouraged the staff to “turn their feelings of sadness around and work towards making an even better game.”
Of course, for some, the sentiment may be that if that game is not Mega Man Legends 3, then it may not matter.
Addressing the fans who had hoped and waited so long for this game to come to fruition, he simply said “I’m truly sorry I couldn’t take part until the end.” He also included himself among the fans, continuing to keep track of the game’s progression even following his departure from the company creating it.
“I didn’t buy a 3DS for this project,” he notes, “but at the very least I’d like to have played the demo.”
So would we, Keiji. So would we.

So... What happens now?
First Capcom screws up by canceling Megaman Universe... and now Megaman Legends 3?
What is going on?
I fear that there will never be another Megaman game, at least, a good one, i really can't understand why Capcom is doing this, lack of fan support? Don't make me laugh...
I am upset by the news, but i am more depressed than angry, Megaman was part of my childhood, Megaman X4 was the first video game i have played in my life, and oh god, was it fun, and i loved every moment of the game, seeing the games dying is just heartbreaking for me.
But now, i fear for what may happen, it seems that Capcom will never be able to make the Megaman fans happy again, or bring JUSTICE to the Megaman franchise
I guess that the only thing that can do the Megaman franchise some good, is that Megaman Online game which isn't even being developed by Capcom.
Oh well, I really hope Capcom has something up their sleeves...

Yeah I'm with everyone. I always heard of franchises dying and never being seeing again but never a major franchise like Mega Man. Seeing it being neglected the way Capcom is doing is so sad.

LONG LIVE THE MEGA MEN!

I for one respect Inafune's decision to leave capcom. He probably saw all of this coming after talking to the execs and decided he was tired of his game baby being shafted this way, milked and sponged for all the money it was worth with no concern for much else. I hold no ill will toward him, only toward Capcom.
MegaMan X was my first game, it inspired me in so many ways, as did the MegaMan games that followed, and without trying to sound too over dramatic I doubt I would be the same person I am if I hadn't become inspired by the storyline of MegaMan X and its series.
The Legends series was a huge part of my gaming life too, I adored the games, hell when I first saw a commercial for legends 1 I about flipped and begged to go get it right away.
My point is, seeing the game canceled is a huge blow, but seeing the series so utterly cast asside is even more so. I'm dissappointed in capcom and to be frank, I have no reason to bother with them without MegaMan. I hope they bring him back in a big way, otherwise I doubt they will ever see the end of the armageddon they've plunged themselves into.

"This decision to wage battle against the old world was made consciously. In other words... We possess the power to go Maverick at will! X... Do you really have what it takes to stop us? You're merely tools of the humans. Tools of the old world... You think you can stand up to those of us who have evolved this far? The world is changing! Therefore it's only natural that evolution take its course. Now, line up to be exterminated!"
