Even if you ignore the fact that it is a blatant knock off, which the same casual family adertising campaign to boot, as the Wii, look at the games coming out for it. Sports Champions?!?!?!?! Really Sony? Is this what success with the PS2 has done to you? Are you the new SEGA, destined to always be one step behind Nintendo and desperately creating "me too" games and platforms to win back your former glory? A couple reports are even saying the motion isn't 1:1 and it's laggy. You had a couple years extra development time and you are only putting out a product that is arguably the same quality as the Wii remote with Motion Plus?! I figured for all the hype, we'd get something better then this. Look motion controls are still a work in progress, no one ever said the transition was going to be easy, but once again it looks like Nintendo will have to be the ones to develop that solution, just as they have with every controller inovation up to this point.
Warning: slightly off topic rant
And no I don't hold any high hopes for Natal either as I fully expect it to be a complete disaster. You need some form of controller in a video game, even if it's as simple as Move or the Wii remote. Having no controller makes you look like a tool jumping around in front of the TV AND you lack rumble support that gives you a certain sense of touch that is vital to a lot of games. Plus if you have a skateboard, scan it into the 360 to use for a controller for your skateboarding game, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU NOT OUT SIDE USING IT!? Go play outside for awhile
End rant

You're spot on, I can't even think of one game that would be good for this- they'd have to come out with their own Wii Sports Resort or something for it to be even remotely useful.

I was disappointed when I'd heard that Sony was making their own motion controller. Sure it'd be great for anyone who doesn't want to use the traditional controller or for people who otherwise might not buy the system. But for the gamer, this is probably just going to end up being dismissed in favour of some of the more important games that'll eventually be released.
Though as for the aforementioned reports... Can you post or PM me links to them? I'd like to read them for myself if possible.
Personally, I'd just like to see Sony focus on making a ton more great games for the PS3 rather than working on a Nintendo knock off. Awesome games will sell more systems and by extension games (because once people buy a system they'll start looking for other great games on it...) than just having a copy of a competitor's gimmicky hardware.
Though I agree entirely that Natal will most likely be a colossal disaster. Though for somewhat different reasons. Namely the space required for single player alone could be huge so you might as well forget multi-player. Then what about lag time for it to process the bodily motions? And furthermore on the speech recognition system, isn't it a problem with them that they have to be trained for a particular user before they're at all effective? And the more people you have using the device the more time spent having to train it before it can actually be used?

being outside is a danger in our world now so we need our children to "fake" skateboard inside...
